EDUCATED ILLITERATES-Welcome To the caste country

EDUCATED ILLITERATES-Welcome To the caste country
while travelling in India It will not be a matter of big surprise if someone asks you ashamefully about your caste in a bus, rail or anywhere and why should be they ashamed of this question, If our chosen democratic leaders are not. We want to be a world power, but our politicians will not let that happen. And the biggerst tragedy is that a number of intellectuals are on their side digging holes for all of us to jump into. Instead of thinking citizenship, our democratically elected leaders are thinking caste and family. As citizens we do not need caste but we need development, growth, employment and clean air.Including Caste in the census clearly shows that caste will be the basis for social policy. The idea of the public is junked and the notion of caste, kin, clan and religion will rule the day.
Not only done with reservations , caste politicians are asking for control over marriage through the law. Now try explaining it to someone in love. Try enforcing it.The only way possible is terror. If this goes their way, marriage through choice will become another victim.
The most successful democracies have been forward looking. They create goals that are not framed by tradition, but by projects that look ahead and create bonds between citizens. The caste census and demands to control caste marriages by law represent double octane backwardness, though it is expressed in a democratic garb.
There has been no caste based census since 1931.The practice was discontinued as it was found to be “DIVISIVE”.
Sir Valentine Chirol , a distinguished journalist wrote in 1926 that”Hinduism could not build up a nation because the one vital structure which it did build up was the negation of everything that constitutes a nation.”
The “vital structure” chirol alluded to was caste.Even after sixty years of independence the depths of india’s “vital structure” have been unmoved.Chirol was right and we may as well acknowledge it.
Apart from the modernisation there is the other india , where your identity is defined not by your profession or your talent but by your caste.Welcome to the caste country. Where the only purpose of education for most of the youths have been reduced to obtaining degrees and making money rather than developing an independent thinking and understanding.
Caste is the mark of an orthodox society, serves no positive purpose, and is impediment to economic development.
Instead of trying to identify people by their caste, it would make more sense for the census to identify people’s economic status.Surely BPLs are more deserving of affirmative action and positive discrimination. But unfortunately they don’t represent a captive vote bank for our so called leaders.caste is not your destiny; it is your vote bank influence.A caste-based census is a retrograde move.
